Discover the states and changes of matter with a printable pack of Science Lab Activities for Kids!
Let’s Learn About Matter With Science Labs!
There’s nothing more exciting than turning your classroom into a science lab where budding scientists can explore, experiment, and discover! Lab activities make science more fun, allowing students to dive deep into hands-on activities that showcase the wonders of the natural world. From watching ice melt to observing bacteria through a microscope, interactive, hands-on science experiments engage students’ curiosity and make them love learning!
Matter and Its Changes Science Lab Activity Pack
We know prepping for hands-on science experiments can be tough and expensive! That’s why we’ve created this printable set of science lab activities that use simple (and cheap) materials for your students to use when studying matter and its changes. This set of four science lab activities is designed to help your students understand the fundamental concepts of matter and its changes by engaging in the scientific process—observing, predicting, and recording data.
Each experiment consists of an instruction page and a student lab report template. Using these tools, students will complete a task and then use their observations to answer a variety of questions requiring analysis of data, reflection, and more! The experiments included in this download are:
- Solid + Liquid = Gas? Matter Experiment – Students will discover what happens when a solid (salt) is mixed with a liquid (soft drink) to create a gas. They will also discover how they can observe a reaction that produces a gas.
- I’m Melting – Ice Experiment – Students will investigate and learn how temperature affects the rate at which ice melts.
- Observing Evaporation Experiment – Students will discover what causes water to evaporate and learn how to observe this phase change.
- Observing Condensation Experiment – Students will investigate how condensation forms and what conditions cause it to happen.
