How to Use this Retelling a Story Activity + Retell Book Ideas
Check out these teacher-suggested books to easily teach students the concepts and elements of a retell:
- “Chrysanthemum” by Kevin Henkes
- “Duck for President” by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin
- “Giraffes Can’t Dance” by Giles Andrease
- “The Gruffalo” by Julia Donaldson
Once you’ve read one of the above stories or an alternative to your students, provide them with a story retelling strip and the collection of cut-out boxes using the chosen vocabulary. Students then need to draw a picture to show their understanding of each element and glue them in the correct order on the strip.
