Quickly subitise and compare with this fast-paced card game.
Subitise Collections of Objects
Learning to subitise small collections helps with multiple mathematics concepts, from counting to early addition strategies.
This activity has students quickly subitise small collections from one to five. The player with the higher number of objects on their card takes both cards being compared.
It is a perfect addition to your maths group rotations when looking for a simple game young students can play independently.
To play:
- Split the cards evenly between two players.
- Whoever has the larger number of objects on their card keeps both cards.
- If the same number is drawn, drawn an additional card each. Whoever has the highest number keeps all the cards drawn.
- The winner is the person who collects all the cards or whoever has the most cards when time is up.
Through this activity, students will show they can subitise small collections of objects.
