A Subject and Verb Agreement Activity for Year 3

Jemima love learning about whales, her favourite animal.
The apples we picked in the orchard is sweet and juicy,
The dogs runs playfully in the circles in the backyard.

Did you notice something ‘off’ about the above sentences? This is because the subject and verb in these do not agree!

This subject and verb agreement activity has been created by the Teach Starter to help your students identify correct and incorrect usage of subjects and verbs. The resource contains 24 sentence cards. Each card contains a sentence that has correct or incorrect verb usage. Once students have made a decision about whether the sentence is correct or not, they must place it under the correct sort heading.

This subject and verb agreement activity downloads as a full-colour PDF or editable Google Slides file. It contains:

  • Instruction page
  • 2 x sort headings (Agree and Do Not Agree)
  • 24 sentence cards
  • Answer key

Understanding subject-verb agreement in sentences is a key grammar skill for elementary students, and this interactive sorting activity makes mastering this concept both clear and enjoyable.
