What is a Number Bond? How are Number Bonds Beneficial?
A number bond is a diagramme commonly used in early maths education to aid in visualising the relationship between numbers. It comprises a shape such as a circle or a rectangle, encompassing two or more parts represented by smaller figures. These smaller shapes add up to the whole, and the number bond helps the learner identify and understand the relationship between these parts and the whole.
Number bonds are beneficial in subtraction as they help students comprehend the relationship between numbers and how subtraction functions. By breaking a number down into its individual parts, students can more easily see the members of each fact family, making it easier to memorise that grouping of numbers.
