This printable resource pack is the perfect way to engage your students in a bit of small-scale reading, inferencing, and drawing conclusions. This activity requires students to read a short riddle highlighting the prominent adaptations held by an animal. Once they’ve read the riddle, they will solve it by writing the letter of the matching animal on the line. Some examples of animal riddles include:

  • I am a creature of the night that can fly without feathers. I use echolocation to find my way and to help me see prey to eat. I have poor eyesight. What am I?__________
  • I’m a small animal, but when I get angry, I protect myself by puffing to look larger. I also have a deadly toxin inside my prickly spines that kills those who try to eat me. What am I? __________

This download includes three Survival Spotlight Animal Adaptation worksheets. Two include animal species from all over the world, and the third features some of the amazing animal adaptations found only in Australia. We’ve also included an answer key for easier grading.
