Practise identifying and using synonyms with a set of four synonym worksheets for early years students.
Synonyms Worksheets for the Early Years
What are synonyms? Why do we need them?
Synonyms are words that have the same or similar meanings. They are important in reading and writing because they help to expand vocabulary, improve communication, and make writing more varied and interesting. Using synonyms also helps avoid repetition and makes writing sound more sophisticated.
The set of worksheets has been designed for early years students so they may practise identifying and using synonyms in context. It includes the following activities:
- Match It Up: Students use the word bank to label the picture with the correct synonym.
- Change It Up: Students change the underlined word in the sentence with a synonym from the word bank.
- Which One?: Students use the word bank to write a synonym for the underlined word next to the sentence.
- Synonym Exit Ticket: Students will identify a synonym for a given word, then write a sentence using that word. We’ve included six exit tickets that are perfect for informal assessments.
Each worksheet includes a set of easy-to-understand instructions and multiple opportunities for students to practise using synonyms.
