Build visual discrimination skills and focus on attention to detail with an Ugly Christmas jumper Problem-Solving Activity.
Guess Who…Has the Best Observation Skills?
Addition, subtraction, phonics, writing…they’re all important. But what prerequisite skills do your students need to succeed with those topics or subjects? They need fine motor skills, a solid pencil grip, and, most of all…Observation Skills!
Without observation skills, young learners cannot grasp the concepts they need to be successful. Attention to detail is critical when completing any academic task. That’s why we’ve created a fun, new Christmas Observation Activity for you to do with your students this year!
Make Observations to Find the Ugly Christmas Jumper
This printable activity is the perfect way to help your little learners brush up on their colours, shapes, sight words, and foundational reading skills, and it focuses on building close observation skills.
To complete this activity, we recommend breaking out your magnifying glasses and setting your students up to work like little scientists! To use this resource, do the following.
- Put students into small groups of 3-4.
- Give your students one Christmas jumper clue card, a recording sheet, a pencil, and a magnifying glass.
- Station each group at a jumper card in a different location around the room.
- Students will read their clue and then closely observe the Christmas jumper on their card to determine if it is the jumper being described.
- They record the match on their sheet if they have the right jumper/clue card match. If they do not, they move to another jumper card to make another attempt at finding it.
- When students find the jumper that matches their card, they bring you their clue card. Switch the clue card with another and send them off to find the jumper matching the new clue.
- Continue until students find all the ugly Christmas jumpers on the clue cards.
