This digital learning activity has been designed by our teacher team to help your students learn key letter components such as the heading, greeting, body, closing and signature. It features a variety of activity types such as sorts, drag-and-drops and labelling.
Students will learn about the parts of a letter through the following activities:
- True or False? – Use the paint tool to colour whether each statement about the parts of a letter is true or false.
- Greetings and Closings Sort – Drag and drop the greetings and closings into the correct column of the table.
- Headings and Signatures Sort – Drag and drop the headings and signatures into the correct column of the table.
- Which Letter Part? – Move a checkmark to cover the correct name for the highlighted part of the letter.
- Examples Drag and Drop – Drag and drop the letter part examples to match their names.
- Label the Letter – Label the example letter by typing the correct letter part names in the boxes provided.
- Which Is Correct? – Move a checkmark to cover the dates, greetings and closings that are written correctly.
- Name the Letter Part – Type the letter part name to name to match the definitions provided.

Ways to Use This Format of a Letter Resource
This format of a letter digital activity can be used in various ways to teach your students about the structure of letters. Here is a handful of ideas to get you thinking:
- Whole-Class Interactive Lesson – Display the parts of a letter activity on an interactive whiteboard and complete it as a class. Call on students to drag and drop the correct letter parts while discussing their purposes. Encourage peer discussion by asking students to explain their choices.
- Small Group Rotations – Use the activity as a part of literacy rotations where small groups work together to complete the tasks. Assign students different roles (e.g. one student drags, another explains) to promote collaboration.
- Independent Digital Practice – Assign the activity as an independent task for students to complete on their own devices. Allow students to self-check their answers using the provided answer key.
