Use a digital interactive notebook to teach your students about the states, properties, and changes in matter.
Using Digital Interactive Notebooks in The Classroom
Digital interactive notebook activities are among the best digital learning tools in the modern classroom. They offer a dynamic way for students to engage with content. These notebooks promote engagement and retention by allowing students to interact with text, images, and videos and giving them the ability to self-progress through complex topics.
Understanding States of Matter Interactive Notebook
This Google Slides Digital Interactive Notebook is designed for year 3 students to explore the states, properties, and changes in matter. The notebook includes seven interactive slides that guide students through key concepts such as solids, liquids, and gases and physical properties like mass, volume, and density. It features embedded videos that explain these concepts, allowing students to grasp the differences between states of matter and how they change (e.g., melting, freezing, evaporation).
Throughout the notebook, students can interact with drag-and-drop activities, fill-in-the-blank assignments, and writing prompts to reinforce their understanding. Independent learning is promoted through thought-provoking questions, clickable video links, and reflection prompts where students can record notes from in-class observations. Some concepts students will explore include:
- What is matter?
- What are the three states of matter?
- What are solids, liquids and gases?
- What are the physical properties of matter?
- What is temperature? Mass? Density?
- How does matter change states?
