Magnets Reading Comprehension Worksheets for Year 4

If you’re in the midst of teaching magnets to your Year 4 students, you’ll be looking for resources to assist you in teaching your students about how these handy little tools are used in everyday life.

This magnets reading comprehension worksheet does exactly that! Students will learn about the uses of magnets in society while also fine-tuning their decoding and comprehension skills. This one-page magnets reading comprehension addresses how magnets are used in the following contexts:

  • Industrial machinery
  • Hospitals
  • Home appliances
  • Jewellery 

After reading the text, students are then required to answer four comprehension questions based on the content of the text. The questions are all free-response questions.

Multiple Uses for This Magnets Worksheet

This magnets worksheet can be used in various ways in your Year 4 science classroom. Here are some ideas you might like to consider:

  1. Whole-Class Activity – Project the resource onto your interactive whiteboard and read through the text together. Students could then answer the questions as a class, in small groups or in pairs.
  2. Homework Activity – Students could take this magnets reading comprehension home to complete for homework. This is a great way of letting parents and carers see what their child is learning about in the classroom. 
  3. Formative Assessment – This magnets worksheet could be used as a formative assessment to monitor how well your students are grasping the concept of how magnets are used in everyday life.
