Help your students build a strong foundation in volume with this fun and accessible volume sheet! With a clear definition and a variety of engaging tasks, this resource is perfect for introducing key volume concepts in a way that’s both visual and relatable. Whether used as a lesson starter, independent activity, or review, students will get concrete practice and real-world context as they explore what volume means and how to find it. An answer key for this volume sheet is included for your convenience.

  • Rank everyday items from smallest to largest by volume
  • Count unit cubes in different shapes to calculate their volume
  • Determine how many smaller cubes fit inside a rectangular prism

Supplement This Comparing Volumes Worksheet

This comparing volumes worksheet is a great introduction to volume, but the concept truly comes alive when you supplement worksheets like this with hands-on activities. We have compiled a list of some your students are sure to enjoy:

  • Cube Build –  Have students build rectangular prisms or irregular shapes using a set number of centimetre cubes. Then, ask them to count and record the volume of each.
  • Hands-On Volume Sort – Split students into small groups and provide each with objects from around the classroom. Students work together to sort and rank items by volume, and then rotate to the next set of objects.
  • ‘Fill’er Up!’ Challenge – Give students a container and have them estimate and then measure how many centimetre cubes it takes to fill it. This is a great way to help students connect the concept of filling space with actual volume measurement.
