Discover ways people use rocks to produce everyday objects with an engaging sorting activity.
Discover Ways People Use Rocks in Everyday Life
Teaching primary school students about rocks can be a fun way to explore the many ways that people use natural materials in everyday life! From the stone that builds our roads to the minerals that make up jewellery, rocks are all around us and play an important role in human life. By looking at rocks and showing students examples of how we use rocks, young learners can understand more about rocks and how this natural resource helps them in everyday life.
What is Made of Rock? Sorting Activity
This printable sorting activity helps young students identify things that are made with rocks and those that aren’t!
This resource includes a printable set of 24 colourful cards featuring a variety of objects that students see every day. To complete this activity, students will practise their sorting skills and learn about the uses of rocks by sorting them into two categories (things made from rock and things that aren’t made from rock) using the two included sorting mats. This hands-on science activity is a fun way to support foundational science concepts and critical thinking skills surrounding how humans use natural resources in everyday life.
