A worksheet to practice identifying the mood of a piece of text.
The mood of a piece of text is the general atmosphere or emotion the author’s words evoke in the reader.
Use this resource when teaching your students how to analyse the vocabulary of a text to determine its mood.
How to complete this literacy activity
- Students read the paragraph.
- As they are reading, students underline the words that contribute to the creation of mood within the text.
- Using these words as a guide, students choose one word to represent the text’s overall mood.
Have your students complete the worksheet independently as a formative assessment to see who needs extra support, or project it on the whiteboard and complete it together as a class when teaching the skill.
An answer key is included in the download.
