Cut and Paste to Build Prefix and Suffix Words

Research has shown that engaging in hands-on learning yields better results compared to just using worksheets. Through activities like combining prefixes and base words to form new words, children can gain a more thorough grasp of the concept of word parts and their effects on word meaning.

This worksheet aims to do just that! With this resource download, students will cut, sort, and paste prefixes and suffixes to repair the damage created by the dastardly word villain! He has mixed up the words in the Word Bank and they must be fixed by combining base words with prefixes and suffixes to form words.  Rather than simply filling in a blank, students can manipulate the word parts with their hands and connect the physical concept of forming words with the mental concept.

✍️The prefixes referenced in this activity are un, dis, re, pre, and mis

✍️The suffixes referenced in this activity are -ful, -est, -ing, -less, and -ed.
