Using a Dictionary – Guide Words Worksheet

Use this worksheet when teaching students how to use guide words in the dictionary. Students will look up words in the dictionary and locate the guide words on each page.

This resource can be used as independent practise after a lesson or together as a whole-class activity in the middle of a lesson. Simply project the worksheet on the dry-erase board and work through the questions together.

What Are Guide Words?

Guide words are the words that appear at the top of a dictionary page to indicate the first and last words listed on that page. They are helpful for quickly finding a specific word in the dictionary without having to scan through the entire page.
