Count and colour the images that have 3 phonemes, 4 phonemes and 5 phonemes in this worksheet set.
Phoneme Segmentation Worksheets
This set of worksheets has been created to consolidate students’ ability to segment phonemes of words into 3 phonemes, 4 phonemes, and 5 phonemes. These worksheets are helpful for young students who are just beginning to develop their phonological awareness skills, as they provide a fun and interactive way for them to practise identifying and counting the number of sounds in words.
Students are only required to colour the pictures that have a certain number of phonemes, meaning they don’t need to determine then what grapheme matches what phoneme. However, this is definitely a way to differentiate this worksheet for students ready for this skill.
An answer key is included with your download to make grading fast and easy!
Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding
To make this worksheet more challenging, have fast finishers have a go at writing the words of the images they have coloured.
Provide only the 3 phonemes worksheet to students who may need a little extra assistance. You might also like to provide them with a sound box template to help reinforce and remember the number of phonemes they count in each word.
