Ideas On Using Your Writing Prompt Grids for Upper Years

  • Print a class set and have students stick the grid in their writing journals. This makes a great warmup activity to spend 15-30 minutes on at the start of every class period or school day.
  • Use it as a fast-finisher activity. When students have an extra minute after completing work, encourage them to select a topic and start a new piece of writing. Students can highlight the writing prompts they have used on their own grid.
  • Print out the grid and laminate. Cut out each of the writing prompts and put them into a small tub. Students can then randomly pick a writing prompt during writing stations.
