You may or may not have noticed the beautiful graphic we had up on the website for Remembrance day. This beautiful graphic was created by one of our very talented designers, Pru Earl.
“I drew a series of poppies using hand-drawn elements as well as Photoshop to create a simple animation for Remembrance day.”
Interview with Pru Earl
What lead you to a job at Teach Starter?
I always loved drawing and painting as a child. After high school, I started a Bachelor of Creative Industries but realised after a year, that the traditional university teaching style wasn’t for me. So, I switched to a Diploma of Graphic Design at CATC Design School and really enjoyed it. While studying I began part-time work as a receptionist at a Human Resources company and continued to work in reception and admin positions throughout my years of study.
The design industry can be a hard one to break into. So, I ended up using my admin experience to work my way into the companies and roles I wanted, by offering to be a ‘jack of all trades’. I worked as a junior designer while doing admin, and any other tasks the company needed from me at the time.
Everyone starts somewhere and after a couple of years, I had a good portfolio and some experience behind me. So, I started to apply for full-time designer roles. My best friend Fleur had been working at TS for a while when a new role as a designer became available. She told me to apply and a few days later I was in an interview with Scott (one of the founders of Teach Starter)!
Now, I am living my dream! Not only am I a full-time graphic designer but I also work for a company that makes a positive change in the world. What’s more, I sit next to my best friend each day!
What do you love most about working at Teach Starter?
The people and the vibe. From the moment you walk into work on Monday morning to when you leave on Friday afternoon, everyone is buzzing and smiling. That kind of environment is so powerful.
What are some of your hobbies? What do you like to do in your spare time?
I really love good food and trying out new places around Brisbane with my friends and family. I also love live music and am into weight lifting and more recently yoga.
What are you passionate about?
I’m passionate about living a life that I’m excited to wake up to every morning. Being grateful for what you have and what you’ve already achieved while still pushing to be better or create something new each day.
Pru’s Amazing Work
Geometric Boho Classroom Theme Pack
Pru worked on this amazing classroom theme pack in a geometric/boho-inspired theme. A lot of work goes into making these designs suit the many templates that are included in our classroom theme packs.
How stunning are the colours Pru has used?
