Use This Phonics Rhyme in Your Lessons
Understanding the sounds associated with each letter of the alphabet is a fundamental skill in early literacy development. Here are some ways you might like to use this poster to support your teaching of letter-sound associations:
- Introduction to Letter Sounds – Each time you introduce a new letter and its corresponding sound, look at the corresponding line from the poster. For example, if you were focusing on the letter l, you would look at the line “Lion licks a lollipop, l l l.” This helps students associate the letter with its sound in a memorable way.
- Craft Activities – Have the students complete craft activities that reinforce the letter-sound association that they are learning. Following on from the above example, students could draw a picture showing a lion licking a lollipop when learning about the letter l.
- Daily Routine – The more frequently that students practise letter-sound correspondences, the better! Incorporate the rhyme into your daily routine to make those letter-sound associations really stick!
