A Captain Yet poster to help students learn more resourcefully and independently in the classroom.

In this teaching resource, the characters Captain Yet and Pirate Nup have an important friendship. Pirate Nup often finds himself feeling helpless to the challenges of learning. Captain Yet is a fantastic friend and has a way to help Pirate Nup see that challenges will often have solutions, they just may take time. The purpose of Captain Yet is to help students use a growth mindset approach to see that there are solutions to learning challenges and how to find these using an independent and resourceful strategies.

Captain Yet’s Joyous Journey is a great example for students to reflect on, as students can observe independent and resourceful learning strategies. Teachers are often the first call for when students are having difficulty with their classroom tasks, who often do not think to use their own self help strategies. Looking at the challenges Captain Yet overcomes using the Yet strategy, students can compare with their own challenges and think of relateable solutions to their own learning challenges. These can be useful as a part of a Captain Yet classroom display, or turn this resource into an easy check desk plate.
