Counting Worksheets for Reception

Learning to count from 1 to 10 is one of the fundamental numeracy skills taught in the first year of schooling. Once students have grasped this key sequence for single-digit numbers, they can transfer these skills to two-digit numbers and beyond.

This set of cut-and-paste worksheets is the perfect resource for helping your students practise and master the sequencing of one-digit numbers. This resource includes five unique grids designed to reinforce the concept of sequencing numbers from 0 to 10. Each grid features several missing numbers, which students can cut out and paste in the correct order. The interactive nature of this activity not only makes learning fun but also enhances fine motor skills and number recognition.

Use These Counting Worksheets in Your Numeracy Lessons

These counting worksheets can be used in multiple ways in your early years numeracy lessons. Here are a few ideas from our teacher team for you to consider:

  • Warm-Up Activity via Interactive Whiteboard – Use the grids as a class warm-up activity by projecting them onto your interactive whiteboard. Have the students identify the missing digits, then add them to the grid with a whiteboard marker. Have the students say the sequence of numbers aloud as a class.
  • Maths Rotation Activity – Use the grids as a maths rotation activity. Place different versions at a learning station and then have students work together to cut out the digits and place them into the correct location on the grids.
  • Create-Your-Own-Grid Activity – Use the blank grid (the last page of the resource) as an extension task for students. Have them create their own grid with missing numbers, then have them place the missing numbers in the cut-out squares at the bottom of the worksheet. Students can then swap with a partner.
