Teach your students about the life cycle of a chicken with this colourful classroom poster perfect for early years science lessons.

Explore the Life Cycle of a Chicken

Understanding life cycles is a fundamental part of science education. It helps students recognise the stages of growth and development in living organisms.

Introduce your students to the fascinating world of life cycles with our detailed poster showing the life cycle of a chicken. From egg to hatchling to chick to hen, this resource provides a clear, visual representation of each stage, helping students grasp the concept of life cycles in an engaging and easy-to-understand way.

This resource downloads in two versions:

  • Colour Poster – A vibrant, fully-coloured poster that clearly illustrates each stage of the chicken’s life cycle. Perfect for classroom displays, this poster serves as a visual aid that students can reference during lessons or activities.
  • Black-and-White Poster – The same poster, but in black and white, offering opportunities for creative engagement. Students can colour in the poster, which reinforces learning through active participation and aids in fine motor development.

Use This Life Cycle Poster in Your Science Lessons

This life cycle of a chicken poster can be used in multiple ways in your science lessons. Here are a handful of ideas from our teacher team:

  1. Classroom Display – Use the colour poster as a part of a class display on life cycles. Add the life cycles of other animals to the display.
  2. Life Cycle Research – Provide your students with the black-and-white version of the poster to paste into their workbooks. Have your students research each stage in the life cycle of a chicken using child-friendly resources. Students can write dot-point notes about each stage on the poster.
  3. Create Alternate Formats – Use the black-and-white poster as a base for creative projects. Students can cut out each stage and create a life cycle wheel, or use the images to make a flipbook that illustrates the progression from egg to chick.
