A fun activity to use in the classroom for students to share their knowledge of numbers from 0 to 10.

Use this teaching resource in the numeracy classroom as a place value assessment tool for students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of numbers from 0 to 10.

Students select and use a range of materials of their choice to make and represent each number from 0 to 10:

  • in words
  • as a numeral
  • as a quantity.

After the students have made their numbers, take photos of their representations. Print off the photos for the students to glue into their Numbat Nelly’s Number Making Challenge Booklet.

Print one copy of page 1 and six copies of page 2 for each student. Cut the pages in half and staple together on the left-hand side, creating a little booklet the provide each student with a booklet.

Students use the booklets to glue in their photos of their number representations, one number to a page.  Alternatively, use the booklet as a recording worksheet for students to draw what they have made. Encourage the students to use the last page to write all the numbers from 0 to 10 in sequential order.
