A five page assessment task for the lower primary, covering persuasive writing.

A persuasive letter writing task where students imagine they have been chosen to represent their grade as a student leader. They must choose between two main issues and write a persuasive letter to their principal, convincing him or her that action should be taken on the topic they have chosen. The issues are:

  1. Computer games are educational and should be used in the classroom.
  2. Weekends should be three days long.

Students brainstorm, plan and write a persuasive letter based on one of the above issues.

This teaching resource includes:

  • a brainstorming mind map
  • a persuasive text planning template
  • a checklist for structure, language features and persuasive devices.
