A sorting activity to help students identify lengths and distances that should be measured in millimetres, centimetres, metres and kilometres.
This hands-on resource for teaching length makes a perfect addition to your numeracy rotation activities!
Print the resource on thick card for increased durability, then cut and distribute to your students.
Students must sort the length and distance pictures according to whether they would be measured in millimetres, centimetres, metres or kilometres. A range of length vocabulary (width, height, depth, distance) has been used to familiarise the students with these concepts.
Some examples include:
- the length of an ant
- the distance between two towns
- the length of a car
- the height of a house
- the width of a pencil tip.
Why not ask any fast finishers to research the actual measurement of some of the lengths and distances on the cards, then share this information with the class!
