Subtraction Strategies Worksheet: Scaffolding & Extension Tips
In addition to individual student work time, use this worksheet as a:
- Maths group activity
- Post-lesson exit ticket
- Homework task
- Whole-class review (via interactive whiteboard)
Got fast finishers? Students who need a challenge, can pair up and create their own equations for each other to solve. They could use larger numbers if they wish.
Students who need extra support can use manipulatives to count on for the addition equation and then remove them to model the subtraction equation.
A Variety of Ways to Prepare This Resource
Because this resource includes an answer sheet, we recommend you print one copy of the entire file. Then, make photocopies of the blank worksheet for students to complete.
You can also turn this teaching resource into a sustainable activity! Print a few copies on card and slip them into write and wipe sleeves. Students can record their answers with a whiteboard marker, then erase and reuse.
Alternatively, project the worksheet onto a screen and work through it as a class by having students record their answers in their notebooks.
