A fun activity that encourages students to think mathematically while developing their spelling skills.
Use this teaching resource in the classroom during English Group Activities or during spelling lessons.
Print, cut and laminate the word tiles. Three sets of letter tiles and additional vowels have been provided to allow for words that include the same letter multiple times.
In small groups, ask the students to choose ten words from their spelling list, a dictionary or from a word wall and record them on the worksheet. Encourage the students to spell out each word using the word tiles and to calculate the word score for each word.
Challenge the students to calculate their overall word tile total and to check their answer with a calculator.
