Two posters with information about how to write in your own words.
Writing in your own words is your own version of the information and ideas expressed by someone else.
1. Understand what you are writing about
Reread the original sentence until you understand its full meaning.
2. Identify the essential information
Pick out the key words that you will need to use in your sentence for it to make sense.
3. Use synonyms to express the same meaning
Replace verbs and adjectives with synonyms or phrases that mean the same thing.
4. Change perspective
Try writing from a different point of view.
