Movement and Brain Break Activities
There are plenty of ways to give kids a brain break in the midst of instructional time, but did you know that movement has been proven to help kids stay alert and focused during lessons?
Movement stimulates blood flow in the body – including blood flow to the brain. When kids participate in physical activities during brain breaks, it increases their blood circulation, delivering more oxygen and nutrients to the brain. This improved oxygenation can enhance our students’ cognitive function, memory and overall mental performance!
Research tells us movement during brain breaks can enhance cognitive processes such as attention, memory, information processing and problem-solving skills by stimulating neural connections and the release of neurotransmitters. Together, this contributes to improved learning and cognitive abilities.
