A mathematics investigation involving 2-D shape, embedded in a real-world context.
This open-ended mathematics investigation has been designed to deepen students’ understanding of 2-D shapes.
In this investigation, the students have been asked to design a crazy playhouse to be built in their backyard. They must draw a design on grid paper using a variety of 2-D shapes (squares, rectangles, triangles and circles) then color their design according to the 2-D shapes they have used.
This teaching resource includes:
- teacher notes, detailing a range of important information about the investigation
- a detailed description of the investigation for students, including step-by-step instructions
- a planning worksheet
- grid paper
- reflection questions.
This resource works great as a math center activity.
