Measuring Length Activities for 3rd Grade Math!

Third-grade teachers, this one’s for you! This year, we’re excited to help you plan lessons and take back your time outside school with new, engaging learning activities aligned to the third-grade math standards. To get you started, we’ve compiled a massive collection of resources and tools to help you teach your third graders about measuring length using metric and customary units.

Estimate and Measure Length With Emily and Max!

Get ready to introduce your students to Estimating Emily and Measuring Max. These two kids are great friends, but they constantly argue! Why?

It’s simple. In this activity pack, your students will discover that Emily and Max like many of the same things but do not like to measure length the same way. Emily likes to estimate length, while Max prefers to measure it using a measuring device. Your students can help them solve their argument and see who has the better method by employing both of their strategies.

There are four worksheets included in your download, including the following:

  • Estimate and Measure Length In Meters
  • Estimate and Measure Length in Centimeters
  • Estimate and Measure Length in Inches
  • Estimate and Measure Length in Feet

Each worksheet requires students to find a variety of objects in the classroom and use estimation and formal measurement skills to determine the object’s length. Worksheets are marked with specific units for differentiation.
