A Set of 5th Grade Editing Worksheets

Bring practical editing skills to your classroom with these engaging and effective worksheets that align with key 5th-grade language standards.

This set of five 5th grade editing worksheets has been designed to give your students practice in a variety of key editing skills.

Each editing worksheet contains the following activities:

  • Incomplete Sentences – Students correct the incomplete sentences in the passage by fixing any punctuation errors and adding any missing punctuation.
  • Spelling and Punctuation – Students correct the spelling errors and punctuation errors within the passage.
  • Adjectives and Verbs – Students identify the adjectives and verbs from the selection of words provided.

It is recommended that students use a colored pen or highlighter to indicate the changes needed in the passages. Alternatively, they could rewrite the entire passage correctly in their notebooks.

These 5th grade editing worksheets download as an easy-print PDF or an editable Google Slides file. Answers are included in both file options.

Differentiating These Editing Worksheets for 5th Grade

Here are some ideas as to how you might differentiate these editing worksheets for 5th grade to more effectively meet the needs of your learners:

  • Simplify the Task for Less Confident Students – Simplify the task for activity for less confident learners by having them focus on correcting only one type of error e.g. spelling errors.
  • Extend the Task for More Confident Students – Consider adding an extension task in which more confident students add additional sentences to the passage containing similar errors for a peer to correct.
