5th Grade Math Worksheets – Test Prep Edition!

Have you reached a point in the year where your students need some practice with all the standards? Are you getting ready for state testing or need some review material? Teach Starter has created a test prep packet that you can use with your students that covers several important math standards.

Students will complete one page at a time to chunk the packet into manageable portions while still practicing rigorous test-style questions. To encourage careful checking of their work, students record their scores on their first attempt on a dot plot.

There are detailed student instructions on their recording and dot plot pages. Additionally, there are detailed teacher directions on the answer key page.

This would be a great activity to have students working in pairs or independently while the teacher works with a small group on standard-specific review skills. It may benefit students to do one question as a whole class on each page as needed.

Students will correct any missed questions with the help of their resources or a teacher. Students should be given ample time to ask for help and review any material they haven’t yet mastered. If a grade is to be taken, students who have completed their work on time should get 100% because the teacher is allowing students to seek help and correct missed questions before moving on. Since there are 8 pages, feel free to take multiple grades from the packet by splitting up the pages.

It is highly recommended to get multiple sticker packs with small stickers of a variety of topics that students will be excited to use. Also, you can get a pack of larger stickers to use as bonus stickers.

An answer key is included with your download to make grading fast and easy!

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

In addition to independent student work time, use this worksheet as an activity for:

  • Guided math groups
  • Homework assignment
  • Whole-class review (via smartboard)

To make it more challenging, do not allow the use of notes or working with partners to encourage students to problem solve on their own and try strategies when they are unsure what to do.

Reduce the workload by removing one question from each page or removing entire pages. Encourage the use of notes, working with a peer tutor or teacher, or using a calculator.

Easily Download & Print

Use the dropdown icon on the Download button to choose between the PDF or editable Google Slides version of this resource.

Because this resource includes an answer sheet, we recommend you print one copy of the entire file. Then, make photocopies of the blank worksheet for students to complete.

To save paper, we suggest printing this multi-page worksheet double-sided.

Turn this teaching resource into a sustainable activity by printing on cardstock and slipping it into a dry-erase sleeve. Students can record their answers with a whiteboard marker, then erase and reuse them.

Additionally, project the worksheet onto a screen and work through it as a class by having students record their answers in their notebooks.
