Assess student knowledge of different addition strategies with these printable exit tickets.
Assess Addition Strategies Easily
Are you looking for easy ways to assess students on different addition strategies during your unit? We’ve got exactly what you need to check understanding in a snap! These addition exit tickets focus on the following addition strategies:
- Jump strategy, or counting on, involves starting with the larger number and mentally counting up the difference to quickly find the answer to an addition problem, usually on a number line.
- Break apart strategy involves breaking one or both addends into smaller, more manageable parts to simplify the addition problem.
- The hundreds chart strategy involves using a visual representation of numbers arranged in a grid of ten rows and ten columns to add tens and ones.
- The compensation strategy involves adjusting one addend by adding or subtracting a small amount to make the calculation easier while maintaining the overall balance and finding the answer.
Exit tickets are a valuable tool that teachers can use to assess student understanding, gather feedback and inform instruction.
