Alien Ordering Numbers Cards Are Out of This World!

Are you working on ordering and comparing numbers with your students? These whimsical alien-themed number cards have many uses and are sure to make your students smile as they learn.

Here are a few ideas for some space-themed fun:

  1. Order Up! – Shuffle the cards and then spread them out face-up. Students put them in order from 1 – 20.
  2. Alien War: Shuffle the cards and deal them equally to two players. The players flip over the top card simultaneously, and the player whose alien has more eyeballs wins the hand and adds the played cards to their stack. Play continues until one player has all the cards.
  3. Space Skip Counting: Ask students to use the cards to skip count by 2s, 3s, 4s, or 5s up to 20 by choosing the multiples of the number and putting them in order.

How to Teach Children Ordering Numbers

Ordering numbers is a foundational math skill for early learners. Here are a few tips to help them grasp this important concept:

  • Use a Number Line: A number line is a very effective visual for students to see numbers in order and relative to each other.
  • Ordering Games: Students can play games like Chutes and Ladders, where they are exposed to numbers in order.
  • Number Stories: There are many books that involve counting and sequencing numbers. Read them aloud often!
  • Number Crafts: Use hands-on activities to give students experience forming, reading, ordering, and counting numbers.
