Uppercase and Lowercase Letter Matching

Are you looking for a fun hands-on activity for your students to practice their recognition and matching of lowercase and uppercase letters of the alphabet? We have you covered with this printable puzzle created by an early years teacher.

This versatile activity is great for early learners who are just beginning to form their alphabet skills. The puzzle pieces are bright and fun and best of all – they’re easy to cut out. Meaning much less cutting out time for the teacher.

How to Use

  1. Simply download and print the puzzle pieces, then cut them out. For added durability, consider laminating the pieces so they can be reused again and again.
  2. Students will enjoy matching each lowercase letter with its uppercase partner, and you can even time them for an extra challenge.
  3. For an additional challenge, mix up the pieces and ask the students to put the entire alphabet in order after matching the letters.

Use This Alphabet Matching Game in Your Lessons

Looking for more ways to use this alphabet matching game in your classroom? Here are some suggestions from our teacher team:

  1. Alphabet Scavenger Hunt – Hide the cards around the classroom or outdoor space. Students work in pairs or small groups to find and match the upper and lowercase letters of the alphabet.
  2. Memory Game – Lay all the cards face down in a grid. Students take turns flipping over two cards at a time, trying to remember the locations of the letters. If they find a pair, they remove the cards from the grid.
  3. Home Practice – Send a set of the matching cards home with students so they can play with their families. This extends learning beyond the classroom and helps parents get involved in their child’s education.
