Identify Attributes of Shapes With Our 2D Shape Profiles

These attributes of shapes templates are the perfect resource for engaging students in exploring 2D shapes! Designed as a set of three “stats cards,” this worksheet allows students to draw, name, and analyze various 2D shapes. It encourages critical thinking as students document the number of vertices and sides and describe the key attributes of each shape. This versatile tool comes in handy to promote shape identification and understanding.

Key features of each profile card:

  • A spot for students to draw and name the shape
  • A section for students to record the number of vertices and sides present
  • Writing space to list additional shape attributes and characteristics

Three different colors and a black-and-white version are provided for variety and practicality.

Using This 2D Shape Attributes Worksheet

This 2D shape attributes worksheet set can be used in many different ways! Here are a few usage suggestions and tips to get your students learning:

  • Laminate for Reuse: Print the attributes of shapes template of your choice on cardstock, and then laminate. Provide students with a dry-erase marker so they can fill these attribute profile out again and again depending on what shapes they are learning that day.
  • Attribute Card Set: Print multiple copies of the template and cut the three “cards” on the templates out of each. Challenge students to create a complete card set of all the 2D shapes they have learned! Once made, these can be used for a variety of games, like “Go Fish.”
  • Color Coding: Use all four colors provided in this attributes of 2d shapes worksheet set to sort shapes. For example, shapes with three sides can be put onto the green template, shapes with four sides on the blue, or shapes with one pair of parallel sides on pink, and shapes with two pairs on gray. Let students get creative in their sorting!
