Author’s Purpose Task Cards – Identify to Persuade, Entertain, or Inform

This set of task cards has been carefully created to give students plenty of practice in identifying if an author’s purpose is to persuade, inform, or entertain. These task cards are in a fun, bite-sized format. Each task card features a short text sample. Students use the recording sheet to circle their answers and justify their thinking. An answer key is included for easy checking or self-assessment.

How to Use these Author’s Purpose Activity Cards in the Classroom

These task cards are perfect for:

  • Literacy rotations
  • Small group reading sessions
  • Independent practice
  • Early finishers
  • Assessment check-ins
  • Partner or group work

You can print and cut the cards, place them in a task box, or even use them digitally by projecting them for whole-class work.
