Engaging Beginning, Middle, and End Worksheets for Storytelling Success

This set of 5 short story worksheets has been created to engage students in exploring what happens in the beginning of a story, in the middle (including the problem) and the end (including the solution). Some stories can make this element a little confusing – so these worksheets have been created to explicitly show these different elements to a narrative.

Each short story has a cut and paste element with images where students need to sort images into the following headings:

  • Beginning
  • Middle
  • End
  • Characters
  • Setting

Story Elements Activities

These worksheets work great for individual practice for students to show their understanding, however, they can also work in pairs or even as a whole class activity. Read the story together as a class and explore the different elements together and have a discussion about each element.

You can also print these worksheets and laminate them and create a story element sorting activity that can be used again and again.
