What Is a Language Learning Notebook?
This Language Learning Notebook is a customizable resource perfect for fostering bilingual learning in Spanish/English Dual Language Classrooms. This notebook allows students to record, categorize, and practice vocabulary in both languages, making it a useful tool for ESL/ELL students or dual-language classrooms.
Ways to use the bilingual vocabulary notebook include:
- Tracking new words and their definitions in both languages.
- Practicing writing sentences with vocabulary words.
- Creating personal word banks for specific topics or themes.
- Drawing pictures to illustrate word meanings.
- Categorizing vocabulary into parts of speech or language-specific rules.

The vocab notebook template is easy to download and integrate into your lessons. We’ve also created an English-only version of this vocab notebook in case you’d like to take a traditional route and work with students on new terms, definitions, and visual representations.
To get started, follow these simple steps:
- Download the resource in your preferred format.
- Print the PDF version for ready-to-use workbooks, or customize the editable Google Slides version to meet your students’ needs. Print each student a 2-sided packet and staple it.
- Hand out packets, and have the students cut the pages in half and stack them up with the cover on top.
- Staple along the edge.
