Practice four different addition strategies in this fun space-themed interactive activity.

🚀 Blast Off to Addition Strategy Planet

In the early stages of learning addition, young children benefit from various strategies to develop a solid foundation. Once you have introduced the following addition strategies:

  • Compensation strategy
  • Split strategy
  • Hundreds Chart strategy
  • Jump Strategy

…it is important to provide your students with many opportunities to practice using these strategies with addition sums. That’s where this space-themed interactive activity is an excellent addition to your classroom addition strategy lessons.

How To Play

  1. Divide students into four groups and give them each a number 1,2,3 and 4.
  2. Provide students with whiteboards, printed hundreds charts (laminated is best) and printed blank number lines.
  3. Present the interactive activity in slideshow mode.
  4. Each slide will present an addition problem and will assign an addition strategy for each group.
  5. Students will race to solve the problem using the assigned strategy for their group number.
  6. Click on the question mark to check each answer.
  7. Students can show the class how they worked it out with their particular strategy.
