Building Positive Learning Attitudes

Adding yet to your students’ vocabulary? These fun posters use silly characters to engage students and remind them of the power of a positive learning attitude!

The printable posters feature Captain Yet, a character excited about the possibility of “yet,” and his buddy Pirate Nope, who often gets caught up in the negative. Pirate Nope is lucky to have Captain Yet at his side to lift him up when he’s down — providing a great example to our students of how they can support their peers!

Teaching Students the Word Yet

Exploring self-awareness and the growth mindset in your classroom? The word “yet” is a powerful addition to their growth mindset vocabulary.

When our students say, “I can’t do this,” just adding one word — “yet” — to the statement changes the perspective entirely.

For example, “I can’t read chapter books” quickly becomes “I can’t read chapter books yet.”

By using “yet,” kids acknowledge they are still in the process of learning and acquiring the necessary skills. Yet instills the idea that they may not have mastered a particular task at the moment, but they have the potential to do so with effort, practice and perseverance.
