Explore Narrative Characters

Characters are an essential element in narrative texts. Without characters, there is no story!

This hands-on flipbook has been designed to help your students analyse a character from a text they have recently read in more detail. In completing this activity, students will learn more about their chosen character’s traits, personality and relationships. Students will write about their chosen character using the following prompts:

  • Give an example from the text where the author uses language to describe how the character looks.
  • Give an example from the text where the author uses language to describe how the character behaves.
  • How do the other characters in the book interact with this character?
  • Write your favorite quote from your character.
  • Explain why the character is similar and/or different to you.
  • Sketch a picture of your chosen character.
