Try Out Some Fun Word Wall Games!

Word walls are meant to be used! Engage your students with fun games using your classroom word wall. Here are a few ideas!

  • Vocabulary Scavenger Hunt: Divide the class into small groups and give each group a set of vocabulary cards. The groups must race to find and match the vocabulary words to their definitions hidden around the classroom or school.
  • Word Wall Relay: Divide the class into teams and have each team line up. The first person in each line must run to the vocabulary wall, grab a word, and return to their team to give the word to the next person. The next person must then run to the definition and bring it back to the team. The first team to match all the words and definitions wins.
  • Vocabulary Charades: Divide the class into small groups. Each group chooses a vocabulary word and acts out the word for the class to guess.
  • Vocabulary Trivia: Create a trivia-style game with categories such as “People,” “Places,” and “Events,” and have teams answer questions about the vocabulary words.
  • Vocabulary Match-up: Put all the vocabulary words on one side of the board and all the definitions on the other. The class must race to match all the words with their correct definitions.
