Encourage your students to compare story characters with this set of differentiated graphic organisers that can be used with any text.
Compare and Contrast Story Characters
A character trait is a quality that defines that particular character. These traits can be outwardly visible (such as physical traits) or internal (such as personality and emotions). Characters are often defined by a few overarching traits, and these tend to vary from character to character.
This differentiated set of graphic organizers has been designed to help your students compare the internal and external traits of more than one story character. Each graphic organizer is slightly different to help you cater to the individual needs of the students in your class. And the beauty is, these templates can be used with any picture book, guided reader or comprehension text!
In order to compare story characters, the students are required to:
- Pick two characters from a story.
- Draw each character.
- List each character’s internal and external traits.
- Identify traits the characters share and those they do not share.
- Explain how the characters are the same and how they are different.
Choose the graphic organizer that best meets the needs of your lesson and your class, or provide different graphic organizers to different groups of learners based on their ability.
