Compound Word BUMP! An Exciting Compound Word Game for Kids
Get ready to pit your students against each other and encourage some friendly competition in your classroom with a game or two of Compound Word BUMP! This fun board-game-inspired game puts your students’ smarts to the test and engages them in identifying and reading compound words. How do you play? Here are a few tips!
- Teacher Instructions:
Print the game board and cards on cardstock for durability. Provide each student with a set of manipulatives (counters, mini erasers, cubes, bears, etc.) to cover the matching words.
- Student Instructions:
Choose a card and identify the image. Find the compound word that matches and place a token on the word. Put the word card back in the pile. If your partner gets the same word, they can BUMP your token. If you get the same word twice, put another token on it, and that spot will be locked.
We’ve included three different variations of this compound word game, and we’ve also made sure it is fully editable in case you’d like to differentiate it further. For now, the words included are arranged in three difficulty levels. Each game board prints on one sheet of paper and includes a set of printable cut-apart game cards.
