Build vocabulary skills and help your students practice forming compound words with a pack of compound word shutter-fold task cards.
It’s Time to ‘Fold’ in More Vocabulary Practice Activities!
Research has shown that vocabulary development in the early grades strongly predicts later academic achievement. Students who enter later grades with a more extensive vocabulary are better equipped to handle more challenging texts and academic tasks.
Incorporating vocabulary practice into K-2 education can be done through various activities such as read-aloud sessions, word games, vocabulary journals, and more! This year, the Teach Starter team invites you to add new Compound Word vocabulary practice activities to your lesson plans, starting with our new Shutter-Fold Compound Word Task Cards.
Print, Fold and Go Compound Word Task Cards
This printable compound word resource is a fun set of brightly illustrated shutter-fold compound word task cards. This self-checking activity pack encourages students to practice identifying compound words based on images and then combining individual words to form a single compound.
Each task card takes shape with only a couple of simple folds, and then you have a fun set of task cards for students to practice their skills with compound words.
How to Assemble:
- To assemble, fold long ways in half on the dotted line.
- Fold the two sides inward so that they cover the image.
- Students identify the compound word and check their answer by opening both flaps.
- Use a recording sheet to record responses.
