Let’s Explore the Ocean and Practice Identifying the Ph Consonant Digraph
Teaching the “ph” digraph involves helping students recognize and understand that these two letters represent a specific sound together. The “ph” digraph is commonly found at the beginning of words and usually represents the /f/ sound.
This fun ocean-themed interactive activity has been created by an experienced teacher with little learners at the forefront of the design. The activities students will complete include:
- Look at pictures, decide if the object contains the ‘ph’ sound, and use a tick or a cross to show their understanding.
- Sorting words into a ‘ph’ list and a ‘not ph’ list.
- Type in the correct word for four pictures, including – phone, autograph, megaphone, and pheasant.
- Read a simple sentence that contains a word with the ‘ph’ digraph and match an image to each sentence.
- Sorting real and nonsense words that include the ‘ph’ digraph.
- Look at pictures and decide which word matches the image. x 4.
- Finding ‘ph’ digraph in a small paragraph of writing.
