Grow Contraction Knowledge with These Contraction Worksheets

This set of contraction worksheets has been created and designed by a teacher to assist children in practising their contraction knowledge. Each flower on each worksheet has two petals with a word on each, students need to create the contraction of each set of words and write the corresponding contraction in the middle of the flower.

Answer sheets have also been provided in the download for students to check their own work.

Activity Ideas Using Contraction Worksheets

Once your students have completed the worksheet – there are a number of different post activities you can get your students to do – write these on the board so your fast finishers have some extension work to move on with:

  • Have students pick a contraction and use it in a sentence – this shows their knowledge and understanding of the meaning of the contraction.
  • Students can write the contractions on flashcards and write the two words that are used in that contraction on the other side of the flashcard.
  • Students can write the contractions and matching words in chalk outside on some cement.
  • Get students to create a find a word for their friend containing the contractions on the worksheet.
  • Students go on a word hunt through books in the classroom library and find contractions.
  • Students cut out letters from a magazine to create the contractions.
